Who Dat Saints

A work in progress, that is the best way to describe the Who Dat Saints facilities. Working on our second kennel, we are trying to make sure this kennel is our last.

In the spring of 2007 Jennifer and Paula realized our nice small kennel was just that.... SMALL.  After lots of begging and talking our, not so silent partner (Jennifer's husband), Steven agreed to put our house and kennel on the market.  In November of '07 we all agreed we had found the perfect place.

Nestled in the mountains of the Shenandoah Valley here in Virginia, we found a house that was half the size of our home in Edinburg with a barn destined to be come a kennel twice the size of our former kennel.

The added bonus was that the barn had a half finished upstairs apartment, perfect for Paula.  And trust us when we say, Steven certainly enjoys telling everyone how he threw his mother-in-law out and makes her live in the dog house:)

Truth be told, Paula couldn't be happier.  She has constant access to our beloved Saints, without having to go outside in the elements.  Her apartment is still under construction but she loves having her own place and being able to have the dogs in her downstairs office whenever she wishes.

With puppies on the way, born September 25th, construction of the whelping room and exercise area had to kick into high gear.  With Lara lounging around the office in full bloom, we put the last few nails in the walls and cabinets up just days before the Grease Litter arrived.

With a years work behind us we still have a ways to go, but we have the indoor/ outdoor runs functional (3 cement double runs, 2 grass and gravel double puppy runs and one grass and gravel whelping run)

The inside grooming area has hot and cold running water and the food prep area is coming along slow but surely.  One of the first things we did was install not one but two central heat and air systems so that we could keep the dogs cool in the summer without freezing the humans and the humans warm in the winter without melting the Saints.

With every board we hang and every kennel we visit, we are constantly learning and designing what we hope will be the kennel of our dreams.

Although we still have a ways to go, the dogs have more space and it is much easier to keep clean and safe. But with this new batch of puppies and plans for future breedings, we are beginning to wonder how we will fit all our future Saints in to this kennel.  Oh well, we'll worry about that once we are closer to done with the initial plans for this kennel.
